La Carihuela was a fishermen's quarter long before it became one of the busiest beachfronts on the Costa del Sol, and you notice it the moment a wall comes down. Low houses from the old fishing village sit alongside apartment blocks built between the sixties and the eighties for summer holidays: small floor areas, closed kitchens, original bathrooms and a layout designed for spending the day outside rather than living indoors.
