Kitchen renovation in Marbella: what's involved

A full kitchen renovation can cover everything from demolition and new layout to plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, worktop, appliances and finishes — or it can be a targeted upgrade: opening to the living area, replacing the worktop, updating fronts or modernising the extraction. In higher-end Marbella properties, we work with bespoke cabinetry, natural stone worktops, large-format flooring and integrated extraction systems.

Open-plan conversions in Marbella villas and apartments

Opening the kitchen to the living area is one of the most requested projects in Marbella, particularly in properties from the 1990s with closed, compartmentalised layouts. We assess structural feasibility, manage any necessary permits and coordinate the demolition alongside the rest of the renovation. In large villa kitchens we also design kitchen islands, larder units and high-performance extraction — layouts that work for both family use and rental appeal.

Remote management for non-resident owners

We manage every step of the project on your behalf: structural assessment, permits where required, cabinetry manufacture, plumbing, electrical, tiling and installation. If you're not based in Marbella, we coordinate everything remotely and keep you informed at each stage with clear updates in English. We coordinate with your community manager when access requires prior authorisation.

High-end appliance integration in Marbella villa kitchens

Marbella villa and penthouse kitchen renovations frequently specify appliances from brands like Miele, Gaggenau, Sub-Zero, Wolf or Smeg. Correct integration requires pre-coordination: professional built-in appliances have specific dimensions, electrical requirements and ventilation needs that affect cabinet design. We coordinate with the appliance supplier before finalising the design to ensure openings, electrical circuits and extraction systems are compatible with the specified equipment. In projects where the owner hasn't yet chosen appliances, we leave openings at standard dimensions and prepare circuits for the most common range.

Villa kitchens in Marbella: utility room, pantry and outdoor cooking

Larger Marbella villas often have more complex kitchen zones: a main kitchen, a separate utility or service area, an integrated pantry, and sometimes an outdoor kitchen for barbecue and entertainment. These renovations require careful coordination of plumbing, electrical and extraction routes between zones. We also manage bespoke pantry cabinetry, wine room integration, and outdoor kitchen connections — gas or electric cooking, sink and drainage.

A kitchen is the renovation with the highest return in a Costa del Sol home: it concentrates plumbing, electrics, ventilation and bespoke joinery into a few square metres, so it demands precise planning. We redesign the layout to gain working area, open the kitchen to the living room where the partition allows it, and fit Silestone quartz, Dekton or porcelain worktops suited to the coastal climate. Our own team, a 5-year guarantee and project management in Spanish and English.

The three decisions that shape the project

The worktop. Silestone quartz offers consistency and low maintenance; Dekton and porcelain withstand heat, scratching and sunlight, making them the choice for islands and kitchens opening onto a terrace; granite and marble bring natural character but need periodic sealing.

Opening up to the living room. Not every partition can be removed: if it is load-bearing a beam or lintel calculated by an engineer is required, and in apartment blocks, formal authorisation.

The island. It means running plumbing and electrics through the floor, which usually requires a raised screed or a raised access floor, and that has to be decided before levelling.

On the coast there are two further checks: ventilation and extraction, to prevent damp and condensation caused by salt air, and the contracted electricity supply — a kitchen with an induction hob, oven and dishwasher may require an increase from 3.45 to 5.75 kW.

A full kitchen renovation usually takes 3 to 5 weeks, depending on the wet trades and the lead time for the worktop and bespoke units. The 5-year guarantee covers labour and installations, not just the manufacturer's materials.

The step-by-step process, the cabinet and appliance brands and the full schedule are set out in the guide to kitchen renovation on the Costa del Sol.

Renovating in Marbella: local context

Renovating in Marbella is unlike anywhere else on the Costa del Sol. High-standing apartments inside gated Golden Mile communities sit alongside 600 m² villas in Sierra Blanca or Cascada de Camoján, and owners frequently live abroad, following the works remotely. That means premium finishes, timelines that respect the rental season, and flawless coordination with each urbanisation's community rules. At Costa del Sol Reformas we bring completed projects, our own in-house team and a 5-year guarantee, and we approach renovations in Marbella with a clear grasp of its international, premium character — from the full refurbishment of a hillside villa to fitting out a penthouse overlooking Puerto Banús.

Where we work: Milla de Oro (Golden Mile), Sierra Blanca y Cascada de Camoján, Nagüeles, Nueva Andalucía (Valle del Golf), Puerto Banús, Casco Antiguo.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you open the kitchen to the living room in my Marbella apartment?

In many cases yes, but this depends on whether the wall is structural. Before any quotation, we carry out a technical site assessment to confirm feasibility and propose the right solution.

Do you provide kitchen design or do I need to bring my own?

We can work with your designer or propose the layout and material selection ourselves. We define the level of design input during the site visit.

How long does a full kitchen renovation take in Marbella?

The timeline depends on scope. A full renovation with bespoke cabinetry and an open-plan conversion typically takes 6 to 10 weeks. We set the timeline in the written quotation after the site visit.

Do you work in villa kitchens with large open-plan spaces in Marbella?

Yes. We regularly renovate large villa kitchens in the Golden Mile and Nueva Andalucía — including kitchen islands, integrated appliances and high-performance extraction systems.

What happens with plumbing and electrical during the kitchen renovation?

Plumbing and electrical are part of the renovation and coordinated by our team. We modify the layout as needed, adapt connections to the new configuration and manage any required installation certificates.

Can you integrate Miele, Gaggenau or Sub-Zero appliances in the kitchen renovation?

Yes. We regularly work with these brands. Integration requires pre-coordination of the design: opening dimensions, electrical circuits at the correct load rating, compatible extraction system and technical installation space. We coordinate with the appliance supplier before finalising the cabinet design.

How much does a full villa kitchen renovation cost in Marbella?

A 25–35 m² villa kitchen in Marbella with bespoke cabinetry, quartzite or granite worktop, mid-to-high-end appliances and open-plan conversion typically ranges from €35,000 to €70,000 depending on materials and exact scope. Any structural opening and associated permits are costed as a separate line item.

How do you handle planning permission for open-plan kitchen conversions in Marbella urbanisations?

Opening structural walls requires a technical project (proyecto técnico) and a major works permit (licencia de obra mayor). We manage community notification where required. We coordinate the permitting process before work starts so administrative timelines don't impact the renovation schedule.
