Renovating the kitchen delivers the highest return of any home improvement on the Costa del Sol: it packs plumbing, electrics, ventilation and bespoke joinery into a few square metres, which is exactly why it demands millimetric planning. At Costa del Sol Reformas we redesign the layout to maximise the working zone (the sink-hob-fridge triangle), open the kitchen onto the living room where the wall allows, and fit Silestone quartz, Dekton or porcelain worktops built for the coastal climate. With over 500 completed projects, an in-house team and a 5-year guarantee, we coordinate every trade without runaway subcontracting. We work across Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola and the whole province, managing projects in Spanish, English and German for resident and international owners who want a durable, functional, high-end kitchen.

The kitchen renovation process, step by step

We start by taking precise measurements and producing a 3D layout plan before anything is touched. On site, work begins with dismantling and stripping out the old wall and floor tiles; we then re-run the plumbing (new water feeds and waste pipes with the correct falls) and the electrics to REBT standard, with dedicated circuits for the oven, induction hob and other high-draw appliances. Next come partition work, levelling of walls and floor, and tiling or microcement. Only once the wet trades have dried do we fit the units, template the worktop (the fabricator cuts it in 5-7 days) and finish with appliances, taps, lighting and silicone sealing. We close with a deep clean and a final leak and level check.

Worktops, units and appliances: what to choose

The worktop drives both budget and durability. Silestone quartz offers a uniform look and low maintenance; Dekton and porcelain (Neolith, Laminam) resist heat, scratching and UV, making them ideal for islands and kitchens that open onto terraces. Granite and marble add natural character but need periodic sealing. For cabinetry we specify water-resistant carcasses, soft-close Blum or Hettich hardware, and handleless fronts with push-to-open or J-pull profiles. For integrated appliances we work with Bosch, Siemens, Balay and Teka ranges, using extractor hoods or downdraft induction hobs such as Bora. We recommend LED lighting under wall units and inside drawers. Every choice is matched to how the kitchen is really used and the level of upkeep the owner is willing to take on.

Open-plan kitchens, islands and coastal technical factors

Opening the kitchen onto the living room is the most common request, but not every wall can come down: a load-bearing wall needs a beam or lintel calculated by an engineer and, in communities of owners, formal authorisation. An island means running plumbing and electrics through the floor, which usually requires a screed build-up or a raised technical floor, so it must be decided before levelling. In a coastal setting we pay close attention to ventilation and extraction to prevent damp and salt-driven condensation, and we choose hardware with anti-corrosion treatment. For holiday-rental properties we favour hard-wearing, quick-to-clean materials. We also check the contracted power supply: a kitchen with induction, oven and dishwasher may need upgrading from 3.45 to 5.75 kW.

Timelines, in-house team and a 5-year guarantee

A full kitchen renovation typically takes 3 to 5 weeks, depending on the layout, the wet trades and the lead times for the worktop and bespoke units. The biggest cause of delay is poor coordination between trades, which is why we use an in-house team (building, plumbing, electrics and installation) and a single site manager who sequences each phase and eliminates dead time. We hand over a fixed schedule with milestones and run quality checks at three critical points: services before they are boxed in, levelling before the units go on, and sealing before handover. Our 5-year guarantee covers labour and installations, not just the manufacturer's material. We invoice properly and provide the electrical installation certificate whenever the work requires it.

Renovating in Fuengirola: local context

Renovating in Fuengirola is nothing like renovating in an inland white village or a hillside villa estate. Fuengirola is a compact, vertical beach town: much of its housing stock is high-rise apartments built during the tourism boom of the 1960s, 70s and 80s, now carrying dated plumbing, kitchens, bathrooms and aluminium window frames that are ready for an overhaul. Layered on top is a strongly international owner base, Fuengirola is home to Spain's largest Nordic and Finnish community, concentrated in Los Boliches, living alongside lifelong local residents. At Costa del Sol Reformas we work with our own in-house team and a 5-year guarantee, and we run every project in Spanish, English and German, essential in a town where owner and contractor rarely share a first language.

Where we work: Los Boliches, Centro y Paseo Marítimo, Torreblanca, Carvajal, Reserva del Higuerón (El Higuerón), Pueblo López.
