The kitchen renovation process, step by step

We start by taking precise measurements and producing a 3D layout plan before anything is touched. On site, work begins with dismantling and stripping out the old wall and floor tiles; we then re-run the plumbing (new water feeds and waste pipes with the correct falls) and the electrics to REBT standard, with dedicated circuits for the oven, induction hob and other high-draw appliances. Next come partition work, levelling of walls and floor, and tiling or microcement. Only once the wet trades have dried do we fit the units, template the worktop (the fabricator cuts it in 5-7 days) and finish with appliances, taps, lighting and silicone sealing. We close with a deep clean and a final leak and level check.

Worktops, units and appliances: what to choose

The worktop drives both budget and durability. Silestone quartz offers a uniform look and low maintenance; Dekton and porcelain (Neolith, Laminam) resist heat, scratching and UV, making them ideal for islands and kitchens that open onto terraces. Granite and marble add natural character but need periodic sealing. For cabinetry we specify water-resistant carcasses, soft-close Blum or Hettich hardware, and handleless fronts with push-to-open or J-pull profiles. For integrated appliances we work with Bosch, Siemens, Balay and Teka ranges, using extractor hoods or downdraft induction hobs such as Bora. Opening the kitchen onto the living room is the most common request, but not every wall can come down: a load-bearing wall needs a beam or lintel calculated by an engineer and, in communities of owners, formal authorisation. An island means running plumbing and electrics through the floor, which usually requires a screed build-up or a raised technical floor, so it must be decided before levelling. In a coastal setting we pay close attention to ventilation and extraction to prevent damp and salt-driven condensation, and we choose hardware with anti-corrosion treatment. For holiday-rental properties we favour hard-wearing, quick-to-clean materials. We also check the contracted power supply: a kitchen with induction, oven and dishwasher may need upgrading from 3.45 to 5.75 kW.
